The ir. public ell Saturday got an idea ot I what a powerful am! capable player c- ; steel is and until .some one is foilin’ to ' capable of playing against him. he will ,v : continue t > ho a thorn in the sides n- jof those opposed Lo him. The M'cslkj | and forwards under the leadership of PI j Bannister were liy far the cleverer and p | although the Grey forwards seemed to j he the heaveir the strategy of the local iv I men more than balanced this. Duncraft did not play with the i dash that sometimes characterises his 1 play, although several of his efforts I were good. Gibbons played a splendid j game, his defensive work being espo< ial!ly good as were also some of his I tackles. M’ogan did not seem quite at i heme as a winger, although he was always there when wanted, saving nicely j on several occasions, whilst his try was ‘ a good one. he going up very fast, virj tiinllv grill-!.ing the Pali from mid-air. | ti. steel did not -com to he on his j game hut ho did m t see a great deal iof the hall. Bannister gave a fine dKj •
piny, which lie always does in a big game, his knowledge always having effect. Devnney gave one of his best displays this season and the hard-headed “Jim" had to he reckoned with on more than one occasion. Perliam and Walker were right on their game, while j their break thronghs and throwing from the ruck and line-outs were splendid. Shaw after lie was hurt did not appear to have the same heart, although he was always there if there was likely to he a score in sight. Ciriffen and Carter tigered hard and were useful components, hut Thompson, who is a very young player, willing enough and fit enough, hut not- quite hefty enough, should steer clear of further representative matches rather than risk getting injured hy players twice the size of himself, and perhaps thus cut .short- a football career that promises to bo a very successful one—two or more seasons for development of mind am. body will make ail the diffei'eme.
