That opportunities are to lie given to tlie men of the American ships of seeing as much of the Dominion as possible during the short space of their visit is evidenced hv a .statement made liv the .Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. R. E. Bollard. The .Minister stated that to enable the visitors to see something of the country other than the ports of arrival it was hoped to arrange for parties of say, 50 officers and from -100 to 500 men, to visit Alasterton and Palmerston North, and parties of from -10 and 50 officers only, to visit Wanganui, Napier and Hamilton. The Government is in communication with the Mayors of the centres mentioned. Rotorua is also to have a visit from some of the men of the ships, and the Government is extending an invitation to Admiral Coontz and his officers to make a trip to that interesting town. It is proposed, said Mr Bollard, to arrange for two separate parties, consisting of 20 officers each from Auckland and two parties of 25 officers each, one of them including Admiral Coontz himself, from Wellington, the Auckland and Wellington parties to combine on arrival at Franktoii. Details have yet to he considered as to the length of stay in Rotorua and suitable dates, hut present indications are that the two trips will l,e about a week apart. Mr Hutai Mitchell, who has so generously given of iiis time and service iri reception and entertainment of the Government's guests bv the local Anuvas on similar occasions previously, has again been asked to kindly associate himself with the Department of Internal Affairs in the arrangements at Rotorua for the entertainment of the American guests. A representative meeting of citizens to-night decided on a comprehensive scheme for the entertainment of tho officers and men of the United States Heel. It is proposed to raise £SOOO for the purpose and hold a special race meeting at Trcntham.
