PRIVATE HOTEL TRAGEDY. (Received this day at 10.2 d a.m.) LONDON. June 11. A double tragedy occurred in the early morning at Boimmleigh private hotel in Streatham. A maid louud the proprietor, James Carlv. aged (ill, dead in his bedroom and bis wife, aged At. seriously injured in her room. Both had their heads battered in. All the gas jets on the ground floor were previously louud fully turned oil. The .guests would soon have been in danger of asphyxiation'. The dead man's supposed brother, Dryder Carlv. aged forty-live, was found dead hanging from a beam of the hotel garage. The two men shared a room, in the basement, Mrs Carlv having a room to herself. It was later discovered that Dryden Carlv was not James’ brother, but is believed (o be a .South African, lluteliniau, who fought in the Great War and suffered from nerves. It is suggested that he first tried to commit suicide by gas poisoning.
