The annual meeting of the Westland Licensing Committee went through very -smoothly. the whole "I ■the business net down living completed in an hour. In most eases the applieations were granted, there b. ing a few applications adjourned to enable police re(|uirements to be completed.
An interesting demonstration ol road j machinery was given by the (•reymonth Motors Ltd in Upper lievell Street today. .Mr \Y. Steer, manager of the firm, carried out tbe demonstration. In the first instance a mechanical loader worked by a Uordsou tractor was used on a pile of beach travel which was loaded into the Westland County lorry for transport to Knnicri. The tractor is powerful and performed the work effectively, but it would be necessary to utilise a loadin'; hin or other container' to he filled by the loader and then drawn off quickly into the transport vehicles. There is time lost in moving with every shovel load to the vehicle, which by arranging a bin could be avoided. A second Uordsou tractor was used in conjunction with. the We hr one-man road grader. This is operated by a single individual. There is ample power, and a clean cut can be made. W hen the niaeliineiy was adjusted to local requirements it j operated with satisfaction. The work is carried out speedily, enabling strot-| dies of roncl to be cleaned up in a brief interval of time. Later the grader was used over other roads, including the County road towards ITau Hau. Ihe machine is capable of great utility for the purpose 'designed, and besides bein., labor saving is time saving; also. Tl7e Fordson tractor is becoming very popular in this district for all classes 0 f work-, and farmers are now acquiring the machine for work about the farms, including ploughing. Several machines are going into South Westland and also in the Kokatahi-Koiter-ppgi district,
