Mr Whil'd said he was olio ot those , who Iliad.- the visiL i f inspection and it j lul l proved a very enjoyable one. He ; was of opinion that tile making of the track would u it do ally damage to the • property of Messrs Andrews and j O'Reilly. lie favored the pressing uT j the motion.

.Mi- Wells outlined the action taken. Kielmries showed the* original line set dnuu did <_’(> through private property, hut then* was no rea.MHi why the line should not ho diverted so a.s to pass outside ] rivat-e property, and to the proposal lie had no objection.

.Mr Serrlc said Messrs Andrews and O’Reilly had his .sympathy as regards the disturbing of their stock, but lie could not hut support the continuing of the track as proposed to bo diverted.

AIT Murdoch considered that the pest'll was a wrong one in view of the damage done to the property holders in the virinity. The making of the track would only licit) to make the position of these property holders more difficult than it was at the present lime. He knew that a large number of people had signed the petition on thi> understanding that the track followed the red line, hut it did not do iso. ITo would oppose the motion, esj peeiallv as those persons who had cans oil damage in the past had not been ; men enough to come before the Cottn- | eii and agree not to offend again. I Mr Huff said if it had not been for [ the friction there would nut have heen ! such a large crowd present on the occasion of their visit of inspection. If they spent £l9 on this track it would not complete a suitable track to I’it iiic- Point. He was not prepared to vote any Council money at present, unless they obtained a substantial vote for a track lor tourist purposes. lie understood that people can get there now for picnic purposes, it they did not carry' guns or take (logs. He would object to the present motion.

Air Donovan eotdd not see why the ratepayers money should he spent when the ratepayers in the locality objected to the work. If should get a government vote for the purpose.

The Chairman said he had heen the first mover for the present vote for the track, and he outlined the position, stating that now the Kokatahi residents wanted the balance of the money to make the track, anil they agreed to complete tile track at their own expense after the money was expanded. Mr S'earle said he was following the attitude of the Central Riding members and therefore voting for the motion. Tite motion was then put and car-

pied on division— Ayes : Alessrs Wells, Keenan, Senrle, Ward and Chairman. Noes —Messrs Duff. Donovan. Murdoch and Jeffries. depftatiox.
