All the holds are full of water, but the engine room which i> situated alt, is dry. The tug T’eraw hiti arrived from Wellington at six o'clock this evening, hut will do nothing till morning. Lloyd's surveyor lias not yet arrived. and no i nlonmit ion as to the steps to he taken in regard to tho steamer can he obtained. It is stated that the steamer is badly 'trained, a number of plates being buckled, and there are fears, so far not founded on actual investigations, that ilia (Arena's back is broken. PLIGHT’ OF CVRENA. WANGANUI. .May 20.

The plight of the Cvrena is serious, but is not as yet considered hopeless. The vessel lias fourteen feet of water in her Holds, hut the engine room is dry. The weather is calm. A start lias been made to unload the case oil cargo and when that is completed an accurate survey of the damage will be possible and it will be known whether the vessel can he p-atehed and towed off.

The vessel lirst struck at a point where it was helr-ved to be clear three feel beneath the hull, and the obstruction I- surmised fo be a sunken log. The initial injury was so serious that tin- steamer has beach; d to prevent sinking in fairway. The Teruwhiti lias arrived and is now standing by.
