Cameron stated that on the day of the offence, the police were taking the numbers of mutor-ears unattended on the streets. As the constables went along a line of

cars, they came upon Carey sitting m a car. When questioned about the car the police found that he knew nothing about ii- He told tile constables that he was “minding" the car lor the owner, hut after investigations had keen made, it was found that although the owner of the ear had left someone in charge, the person had not waited until the owner came hack to it. Later Carey visited the Police Station and made a statement to the effect that when ho saw the constables taking the numbers of the unattended motorears. he stepped into one of the ears so as to lead the police to believe that lie was in charge of the car while the owner’ was away. He concluded the statement by saying that he was sorry for tho foolish action. “Apparently he wanted to do a wood turn for the owner of the- car. your AVorships?” said Sub-Inspector A. Cameron, “and when he did it, he did himself a bad one,” “lie is convicted and sentenced to seven clays in goal with hard labour,” said the Bench without comment.
