Massey in reply to a deputation stated that the Massey lamily was highly honoured h.v the request that he contest his rather s scat Franklin. Private alfairs absolutely forbade bis entrance into politics at the present time, and nothing tea, the deputation could say would alter his decision as be had had to ret u-c the earnest request ot the mothei, who had said that if Franklin, which was the best electorate ever a man had, desired him, his duty was le, keep Massey associated with it. He would
never forget the great tribute paid his father, and his gratitude was deepor than he could express.
Replying to a. deputation at Rapa kura Mr E. D. McLollati said he regretted exceedingly that Mr ■). N Massey could not contest Franklin which had decided t.i allow his (Me Lonmin's) name to go betore the >e lection committee.
Mr McLennan i- a resilient of Rnpakura. residing on the farm where he was horn and lie lias held office on a number of local bodies and agricultural and industrial associations.
