AYhen the suggestion ol a carillon was first made, cold water was thrown upon it by the utilitarians because it would serve no useful purpose. Fortunatelv for Sydney’s artistic sense, supporters of the sclieiue, who urged that a carillon would he Useful as and more ornamental than many other kinds of war monuments, won the day. A year ago a fund was started. Ihe Senate of the University gave its approval to the proposal, and graduates, undergraduates and other Iriemls oi Sydney's hall of knowledge flung themselves enthusiastically into the project of raising sullicient funds to ensure an adequately beautiful ami efficient carillon.
