A discussion of the future leadership of the Reform Party lias commenced in the ‘New Zealand limes”, which sees no immediate prospect of a union of the Reform and Liberal parties, editorially, under the heading, “Old Shibboleths Must Co.” the ‘‘Times’’ says:—-‘-The hour has conic lor New Zealand to choose n leader to replace him of whom a large part of the world speaks or thinks so kindly. Mr Massey's successor, whoever lie may he. will ho confronted liv responsibilities as delicate as they are exacting. “It is no time lo introduce pariy polities, but this much may be said without oll'emliug the decencies. The country's first and most pressing need is a Prime Minister who can sec his duty clearly, ns did Mr Massey, and who x\ ill as faithfully and determinedly apply himself to the performance of that duty.
