A Kaikoura message states: —An earthquake last evening shook down chimneys in several residences, while near Clarence bridge, trees have been uprooted and cracks have formed in tlie road from two to eight incites wide. Slips have caused a blockage of traffi.' on the Huhi-Ptthi toad. Toleßhoim eommunieation wit-h Christehureh was interrupted. \t Kekornngu. halfway between Kaikoura and Blenheim, tremors hawbeen experienced all day. Fortv seven tremors have been recorded up till a very late hour to night. The- residents are camping out in the open. At AVoodbank station, the family of the owner, Mr A. .T. Murray are bivouaced in tho drive, tho persistent tremors haring forced them to ’ conclusion that that is a safer spot than tho house.
