D la-ied for ai least twelve seconds, its mn-i remarkable feature locally bcthe very even nature of the vibrations none ot which was sharp. The direct ion appeared to be froin east to v.i'st. Telephone advires indicate- that at other West Coast towns, as well as on the East Coast of the South Island, the tremors were distinctly felt, but tin y were evidently not severe enough to cause nnv damage. WESTPORT. April 30. Two severe earthquakes wore felt here in quick succession at 10.30 tonight. The rattle of windows caused some alarm, and some people in huge buildings took to the streets.
