BOY SCOUTS

(Contributed). The .Second Hokitika Troop has j h.-.I received a present of a, handsome sill, Union Jack from the District Scoutmaster at Timnru, and this was used for tlio first time at a sunrise celebration of St George’s Day last week. On this day the scouts of the world

meet together to honour their national flag and their international promise and law, as well as to express their

loyalty to the Chief Scout of the AA'orld and their Brother scouts everywhere.

According to the “Date Line” only the scouts of Fiji have a chance to he there before New Zealand in this and similar celebrations, and it is usual for an effort to be made to start the ball rolling from this country. North Island scouts would have a slight advantage in the time of the sunrise at this time of the year, but Hokitika was there in ease of accidents, and the local scouts are anxiously waiting to hear which troops wore up before them.

This troop is now meeting at the usual times and preparations for the Dunedin Jamboree are the order of the day. A number of the hoys are trying to use their spare time to earn the cost of this expedition, and anyone with odd jobs almut the house or garden that have been put oft long enough, who would be willing to employ a scout for an hour or two, would j be helping things forward by sending a post card to the scoutmaster. Boys wishing to join this troop or pack should apply between 4.0 and S.O p.m. on Tuesdays nr the Scout Room next to the Swimming Baths,
