Tho Municipal elections, especially for the Mayoralty, were keenly fought. 'Hie sitting Mayor, Air R. E. Hornblow, who held the position for six years, was defeated by ,69 votes, by Mr F. A. Jones, who had a strong backing of business men. The voting was: Jones 401, Hornblow 332.

AT TAURANGA. TAURANGA, April 30.

The poll taken on the half-holiday question shows Wednesday was chosen instead of the present Thursday by a laroo majorityi Saturday being very poorly supported. An informal poll was also taken whether the Council should continue the running A T> ctures in the Town Hall as a mumc v, enterprise, or whether the hall am u'cl he leased. 618 votes were east for leasing and 333 for the continuance of municipal control.
