CONCRETE HOADS

AUCKLAND, April 23.

A new use has been found for the Auckland suburban concrete roads. The hoys and girls of the Mount Eden district have discovered that, the smooth, linn, surface lends itself admirably to the c.xhiliratittg sport of skating and roller skating which promises to become a. popular pastime in the city. The centre of activities at the present time is Selwyn avenue. A concrete road lias only recently been formed there, and the seclusion of the locality is a factor in its favour with devotees of skating. On any evening during the week, or on Saturday afternoon’s, crowds of hoys and girls may be seen at Selwvn avenue. Some will he skating, and many more will lie waiting for a turn. At present there are only about eight pairs of skates and four times that number of skaters. POLYNESIAN ANGLICAN SYNOD. AUCKLAND. April 27.

The first Polynesian Anglican Synod will he opened hv the Primate of New Zealand Archbishop Averill, at Levuka next month. Previously Fiji tvns under the control of tho Bishop of London, and was administered from England. At the- last General Synod of New- Zealand, however, it was decided that Fiji was under the- description of the Dioccso of Polynesia and .should come within the Province of the Church in New Zealand. The Primate, who will he accompanied by the Rev. R. George Coats, will leave for Suva by the Aorangi on May 12. After attending Synod at Lovuka, which will occupy about two days, lie will proceed to the island of Vnnua i,evu on a visitation. He will return to Auckland hy the Niagara, which is expected to leave. Suva about June 22. NEW THEATRE AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, April 27.

J. C. 'Williamson, Ltd., have, secured an option by which they will control the company which at present owns the Coliseum Theatre in Queen Street., on which a large sum has already been expended. Work lias been delayed for lack of capital during tho past few weeks. If the arrangement is concluded, £30.000 will he spent on the completion of one of the finest theatres in Australia or New Zealand.
