OKURU NEWS.

(From an Occasional Correspondent)

Tho Okuru horse-races and sports took place cm Easter Alonday and Tuesday respectively. The weather on race day was all that could he desired, all tho events were keenly contested, and the meeting was pronounced as most successful. The meeting was favoured by the presence* of Air T. E. A r . Seddon (that dear old cult, who is going into training shortly), also visitors from as far north as AVaiho. Alakaroa (Lake AVanaka) was also represented, Mr Dowell of Hawed Flat bringing through his splendid colt Nimble Foot to claim tlie coveted prize. The committee of management deserve credit for the manner in which they carried out their honorary duties. The handicaps for the racing events were compiled outside the district, thus removing all cause of friction. Tho results of the principal events were as follows:--

Hapukii Stakes, furlongs:—Wee Aliie (Thus Duggan) PJst. 1; Maintain Roy (AY. Condon) list. 2; Sunbeam (P. Nolan) 12st. also started. Stewards’ Handicap. C furlongs:— Atystified (J. Cron sour.A 13xt. 1: Alollymnwk (P. Nolan) 12.-,t. (ilbs. 2: Bandy (James Harris) 13st. also started.

Okuru Cup, 1 mile:—Fixed Star (Flashlight) (John Cron senr.) PJst. 1-Jibs' 1 ; Balefire (C. Smith) PJst. P-’lbs 2. Balefire had the misfortune to run off tho course in tlie final round. Seaside Trot, U miles:-- Nimble Foot (.1. 11. Dowell) SOI*. 1; Cidus (E. Cron) sor. 2; Miss Beta (J. C uttnneo) sei‘. and Kate (James Harris) l.jsoe. also started.
