Gin. beam and weighing ’-.’Alb—those are the dimensions and weight of a line head ol red deer shot in the Landshorougli district, in South Westland. by Lord Helper who. with l ady Belfa-r. returned yesterday from ail ex I ended doer-stalking expedition. Lord Helper gave an outline of his trip. Accompanied by Major Wilson, Lord Helper stalked the Laud.sborough Valiev and secured the specimen mentioned. which is said to he the largest and best head ever secured in New Zealand. A good royal was shot in the same place, and later Lady Helper joined the party, which went up to the Blue River, where they got five good heads in three days’ stalkingThey were unable to toniinue their sport in the locality on account of lieavv snow which reached a depth of

four feet. Before actually leaving the Blue River, however, they secured a 14-pointer, which measured J6in. wide, and also two other royals, one of which measured 43iu. long and -I2in.- wide, and the other 40in. long and Jilin, wide. A 13-pointer, JOin. long and 35in. wide. I'efl to Lady Helper's gun. and tt 15-pointer. 38in. each way was also shot. The best three heads alone make a very fine bag. and Lord Belper considers that they quite eclipse any of the heads scan at Wembley. They had penetrated further tip the Landsborough Valiev than any stalkers ha previously done, and their trip had impressed upon them that New Zealand was certainly a wonderful country for sport and beautiful scenery. Lord Helper said: “I intend to take all the heads home to England with me. and place the best at Wembley. That should give people in England a very goad idea of the womlerlul sport to be obtained hers. We lmd excellent guides, T>. Beil and C. Ilodgkinson, and our trip was thoroughly enjoyable in every way.” Before coining to the South Island J,ord Helper did a considerable amount of fishing in the North Island, going after trout in the inland streams and swordfish in the deep sea.
