HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FRIDAY, APRIL 17th
The Council met at 7.30 p.m. Present:—Alcssrs G. A. Perry (Mayor). .1. King, I). J. Evans, W. Jeffries, 11. AI. Coiiisan. \Y. I). Alaekay and J. Lloyd. The minutes were confirmed and outward corrcspcjr.deucc* approved. .MOTION OF SYAIPATHY.
The Afavor moved that an earnest expression of their very sincere sympathy in the illness of the Prime Alinister he forwarded to the voting Prime Alinister for transmission to Airs Alnssev. Air Perry referred in feeling terms to the illness of Air .Massey, stating that the l general expressions of sympathy being made showed the high esteem in which ho was held. Seconded by Afr Jeffries and carried. INWARD C’ORR FSPONREXCE.
From Public Works Department forwarding copy of regulations affecting heavy lorrv traffic.—Received •_ referred to Public Works’ Committee.
From Westland Hospital . Board forwarding cony of nropo-ed levy for the year, the Borough’s share being CJO3 12s 3d as against, £559 last veer.—Received. Air Jeffries eulogised the work of the Hospital Board during the past year, stating the Westland Hospital Board was the only Board in New Zealand that had been able to make a reduction in its levy. He moved the levy he accepted and the Board congratulated on their work during the year. Seconded by the .Mayor and carried.
From Commissioner of Crown Lands notifying throwing open of residential allotments at Lake Knnicri. and enclosing (Oiiv of proposed conditions for consideration.— Received. The Mayor said an important point, would tin the preservation of the iMiritv of the water supply of the Borough. Arc Evans moved that the letter he referred to a committee consisting of the three Chairmen of committees to confer with the Commissioner. Seconded by Mr l.loyd and carried. From Ladies lloekev Club applying for ice of No 2 ground on Cass Square for plav.—Received and request granted. From J. Burns niul Co. Christchurch, in reference to charges on pipes.—Received ; Town Clink to reply. From Hon Minister of Public Works acknowledging letter in reference to resolution of Council.— Received. From J. O’Brien ALP. acknowledging resolution of Council and promising attention thereto.— Received. From Clerk of Court notifying Ices payable to Council for period .€1 15s.— Received. From AY. Braddon and 75 other residents of Sowell St. asking tor an extension of the Sewell St. drain by a concrete drain from Hampden Si. to Park Si. Received and referred to incoming Council. From It. Aloltram and twelve others asking for formation on iho oast side of Brittan St root . Received ; the work had already been authorised lo he proceeded with as soon as possible. ,
The Mayor reported Iho arrangements made with the Kanieri Electric Ltd. in connection with the water supple required.— Received and approved. From Kanieri Electric Ltd. thanking Council for permission to erect an oil reservoir.— Reeoiveil. REPORTS.

The drain on the western side "I Davie St. has bean deepened for a distance of about I chain. A concrete man hole has been put in „n ill,, J!eulev M. drain, when' it jnneli ms with a large concrete drain on the mirth side nf I Inmpdcn St. Cass Square has been mown once and forty dray loads of tap-dressing spread in the hollows on the western side. The public convenience on tile smith side ot the square is repeatedly left in a filthy condition, and I earnestly recommend its abolition.
Till- pipes for the auxiliary wilier ,supply came to hand on March 2'Mo. and all the available hands were put on to this work, and the water was turned in from the Kanieri Forks on (mod Friday. April 10th. Tn company with Mr Heinz, the Chairman of I’ul'liWorks, ,1 Took two tests at the reservoir. the quantity delivered Imm the new suppiv being 170 gallons per minute, which I believe to be in excess of anything previously delivered hv the pipe line. At. the linn* ol writing there is a depth of 7ft. in the reservoir. The sexton has been engaged during the month in weeding paths and cutting grass. Burials for the month of March—o. From Manager of Abattoirs (1. •larmon) reporting they were examined during March, 24 cows. 58 belters, -12 to,Hocks. 21 l sheen. 53 lambs. 22 tugs, 83 calves. Condemned : 1 cow. I sheep, ] pig.
