A special mooting; of the Greymouth Harbour Hoard was lield yesterday afternoon to consider the report on suggested harbour improvements by Mr AY. Ferguson, M. Inst., 0.K.; -Air F. A\ . Furkert, Al. Inst., C.E. ; and -Air .T. Blair Mason, Cliarlored Civil Engineer. The report was received. Considerable discussion then took place regarding Iho fee asked by the engineers, members generally agreeing that if the report were adopted the fee should he paid. However, the opinion was freely expressed that the report did not come up t„ expectations, as nothing fresh had been vouchsafed the Board. The fee of 02000 asked by the engineers was considered to he excessive under these circumstances. It was finally dosided that a letter ho sent to the engineers stating that the report did not provide for a depth of twentythree feet on the bar, and if made no reference to a deep-sea harbour. The report gives a suggested depth of 20ft which is not a sufficient depth to warrant the expenditure suggested by the Engineersh. The report provides for the extension of the north breakwater by 220 feet, the dredging of the south lagoon, the construction of a channel 120 feet wide across Preston Road to connect Ivaroro and Erua Moana Lagoons, widening and deepening the channel between Erua Moaua and the dock, together with alterations to the Railway Bridge leading to the breakwater. The total expenditure of tlie work suggested was 048,000.
