When the girl Best, who was attacked by a man with a razor first gave notice of her desperate plight, she was seen running near the foot of Alexandra Street with a man in pursuit. At

this point he seized her by the throat but she broke away and ran up Queen Street. When some distance below Dixieland Cabaret, the man again caught her and attacked' her with a razor, and finally threw her to the ground in the doorway of a Chinese laundry. It was then that some spectators realised they were witnessing something more serious than a domestic brawl, and several went to the rescue of the women, who was hv this time in a serious condition,

bleeding freely from several deep gashes. Sergt. Lambert, who was passing on a traimar, immediately took charge of the affair and hurried the woman to J)r .Murray, who gave wliat relief ho could, and sent her to the hospital.

It was seen that the injuries consisted of a deep gash on the left side of the neek from below the ear almost to the collarbone, a cut on the outer side of the right forearm, exposing the muscles, a cut from the front of the right ear to the mouth, exposing the cheekhone and a cut on the front of the right wrist.

At the hospital the woman was taken to the operating theatre and given immediate attention. By this time she had lost so much blood that she was too weak to give an connected account of tito assault.
