GERMAN REPUBLICANS. - BERLIN, April 14
Forty thousand Republicans demonstrated at Hamburg as a counterblast to Hindonburg’.s nomination. There was another great gathering at Breslau, where Locbo, the Socialist, President of the Reichstag, said that the nomination of Hindenburg was a ciime against a man whom all Germans honoured and esteemed. Either Hindenburg would fail and then he dragged into a party lend, losing lib nimbus, or he would achieve a Alonarcliist victory, in which case, though considering himself hound by oath to the ex-lvaiser, he would have to swear be- would safeguard the Republic, but w.hon the first political crisis arose. Hindenburg, inexperienced and ignorant of politics, would shatter what bad been accomplished in the direction of the pacification of Germany or shuttor his own reputation as a strong hero.
