CHRISTCHURCH, April 11

Three motor cars were concerned in a smash on Papanui Bond this afternoon at the intersection of Jlcalon Street. Two cars were proceeding north towards Papanui and the third came out from Heaton Street,, intending to go right < n into Lines Road. The third car was caught by the other two and a great smash resulted.

A three sea ter car which was driven by a lady had evidently been caught between the two other cars. Its running hoards were completely wreck- ’ ed ; both hack wheels were shattered, and the left front wheel and hood were damaged. The body of the car also was hadlv knocked about. A live-seater car also suffered considerably. Its right front wheel was shattered, and its hood badly damaged. The third car had its hood and radiator considerably damaged. All three cars finished up after the accident in a side channel, being practically locked together. Two of the occupants were injured, but not seriously. j BOOKIES FINED. DUNEDIN, April 11. The annual conference of the New Zealand Dental Association opened today. Delegates are present from, all parts of the Dominion. The President (Mr C. H. Moses) in his opening ad- 1 dress stressed Hie importance of eating hard foods for avoidance of dental j trouble. Examinations had diclosed, 1 he said, that 98 per cent of school eliil- 1 dren were suffering from more or less 1 dental decay most of which could have 1 been prevented by avoiding sloppy lood. -- He emphasised particularly, the value of wholemeal flour.
