ATHLETIC AND CYCLING SPORTS
The Hokitika Athletic and Cycling Club held a sports meeting on Cass Square on Easter Saturday. There was a fair attendance only. The weather overnight had been boisterous and though the day turned out fine, there was a cold southerly wind blowing. Counter snorts attractions at Orcvinnulh and Grey Valley also militated against the attendance, the position being further accentuated by the epidemic restrictions which affects the attendance of juveniles, as also parents in many cases. The Municipal Hand was present and discoursed an enlivening programme of music. Ihe cycling and grass tracks were in good order, and fail- time was nut up. The principal officials were at their posts, and the events were got oil promptly. iheie were” several good contests, while the fields in the cycling events were good. Dart and other games served to entertain the public between the events, and tt refreshment booth conducted by Mr A. Dowell was well patronised. The following are the results: — Novice Cycling (npen.i, 1 mile, prizes eg g], and 10s.— E. Roullian 1, j v - Thoru 2, If. Steel 11. Time— 2. -10 2-). Maiden l-'lat Handicap (open). I<>.) yards.
