THE SHOOTING SEASON

The open season for taking imported and native game in the Westland Acclimatisation District is now gazetted. The period from the Ist. May to the 31st. July is the open season tor Westland. for the taking or killing of the following imported and native game—viz: cock pheasants. Californian and Australian quail, mallard dude, grey duck, and black swan.

The period from the Ist. May to 31st. May is the open season for the taking or killing of pukeko. The period from the Ist. May to the 7th. May is the open season in that part of Westland known as Wutaroa, Cooks, and Karangarua river Hats, South Westland, for the taking or killing of paradise dueivs. Shooting licenses. 20s each, will ho issued by the Postmasters at Hokitika, Ross, Kniiia.ru. and Okarit-o.

The number of,native game that may he taken or killed by any one person in any one day, shall not exceed 25 head in all, of grey duck, pukeko, and black swan ; and live paradise duck. Licenses do not permit holders to shoot over any wmbtuary or public domain.

There are restrictions as to the type of gun to he used. Shooting may i e gin nut earlier than half an hour before sunrise and cease half an hour alter the sunset.
