The police at Chicago raided the . sumptuously furnished offices of a lawbreaking syndicate and discovered complete details of operations in connection with the distribution of liquor and the management of disorderly resorts on a stupenduous scale, involving many I millions of dollars annually. The information was obtained from neatly audited ledgers filling the cabinets and other book-keeping devices on the premises, which included the names of hundreds of wealthy liquor customers and saloon keepers, with running accounts, the names of disorderly resorts and their inmates, lists of police officers and Government officials who were bribed; also an account of the operations of four great breweries and liquor deliveries by carloads. EARTHQUAKES IX MEXICO. [Reuters Telegrams.] MEXICO CITY, April 8. Thousands of people in Durango arc reported to he living in the open on account of their homes being damaged by the recent earthquakes, or because they fear to return on account ol the recurrent shocks. Only minor injuries are reported.
