MONDAY, ABRIL 6th
Tlie Committee met at the Technical School room at 7 p.m. Present; Rev J. F. Jack (Chairman), Messrs Richards, Wells, Sweney, Huseler, Goodfellow. Fodder and Conning (lion. see.).
The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. . INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. 1 From Aliiii.stcr of Health stating it was not possible at present to provide dental treatment for pupils up to the ' age of J 4 years.—Received. ; From Education Board forwarding application of Donald C. AAilliamson. grade 215, for approval as assistant so- , condary teacher, and Mating lhero was only one other applicant,—Received. It I was resolved to approve of the appoint- i ment. Air Fortune, grade 209. j After discussion it was resolved to re- I commend the appointment of A 1 i- | Lynn, to take tlie place of Aliss Altiyne. I From caretaker, asking for supply of | field tools, coal, coke etc. for use in the grounds.—Received. From B. Dixon. Greymouth. offering supply of school requisites.— Received. From C’. H. Rose, Greymouth. quoting for supply of coal.—Received. The Chairman staled that lie understood that the applications received for the headmastership ot Hokitika school had not been eonsidereil satisfactory by tlie Board and fresh applications were being invited. Accounts as tabulated were passed for payment-. The Chairman reported having interviewed Sir James Parr (Al mister ol Education) who declined to give a a rant for the improvement of the grounds and to tlie request for an extension of the age of dental treatment , t.:> scholars be referred to the Alinistii J of Ilealtli.—-Received. | Mr Wells moved that it be a recommendation of this Committee to the Education Board to advocate the compulsory teaching of swimming in all school’s. Seconded by Mr Sweney and carried. A further motion by Air Wells tccommcntled Hint Hie Board instruct its teachers to instruct the scholars m the various forms of sport.—Seconded by Air Redder and carried. Rev J. F. Jack moved that in the event of the schools re-opening before Wednesday next, that only the infant, class be given a holiday. Seconded by Air Conning and carried. It was resolved that the school excursion be not held this yeai ai-d that the money raised be Ranked and kept for next year. The Chairman suggested that memla,., present signify whether thw were prepared to accept nomination for I ns vear’s school committee election.
