HOKITIKA GOLF CLUB

LADIES’ MEETING, 1925

The annual meeting of lady members of the above Club took place in tho County Office rooms oil Thursday, April 2nd, at 7. p.m. There were present Mesdames Mncfnrlane (In tint Chair), Broilie. Wilson, Neville, Butler, Perry, Oaguey, .Morris, Irwin, Bail'd. -Misses I. Aitkon, Lewis, Moore, G. King and Perry. Airs -Maclarhuie said she had been asked to apologise for the absence of ■Mrs Stavelev, This she regretted to say, was owing to ill-health, which had obliged Mrs .Stavelev to resign the position of secretary undertaken by her with so much cnthusiiism last year. They were very grateful to Airs Brodie who had .so capably and efficiently carried on since Airs Stavelev was incapacitated.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL REPORT.

Tour Committee beg to submit the following report on the operations of the Club for the year:—The season was started earlier than usual, so in spite of unsettled weather, tho matches set down were all played off within the time allotted. 'Members .'ire Hindi indebted to Airs J. C. Alarfarlane, Airs Buchanan, Airs Houston, Airs AlrCashill. Airs Wilson, Airs Stavelev. Airs Neville and .Miss Aland! for presenting trophies ami io .Mrs Winchester for donation which has been expended in procuring two chairs for the Chib house, also to Airs Neville for donating a Notice Boat'd which had been found most useful, and to Airs Cranston for presenting dainty cups and saucers for the use of the Club. Also to Airs St-avoley for curtains for iheClub house. The principal matches played during the season were the monthly medals and bogey scores for the Beare Bowl the latter being held for the ensuing year by Aliss I, Aitken.

The Senior Championship was won by Aliss Moore and the .Junior Championship by Aliss King. The Senior Eclectic hv Alias Moore atld the Novice Eclectic hv Ali-s CL King. Airs A\ ilsou’s trophy for greatest reduction in handicap was won by Airs Morris in L.G.U. grade and Aliss G. King in the Novice grade. Airs Stnveley’s trophy for the iiest aggregate L.G.U. grade was won by Aliss Alorre. Mrs Buchanan’s trophies by AL's llrodic and Aliss Michel ''foursome). Mrs Houston’s trophy flag match by -Miss 1. Aitken. Airs AlcCnskill’s trophy flag match hv Aliss .Lewis. Aliss Aland! s trophy by Miss G. King. One Club match by Aliss Lewis.

The AVest Coast Championship was held at Greymouth last year; this year it will he held on the Hokitika Links and we hope that our players will give a good account of themselves. Our thanks are tine to the Hokitika Guardian .Management for their courtesy in publishing reports of matches.

It is suggested hv the Committee that there should be some alteration to the ladies’ course to try and make less congestion on Saturdays and for I lie Tournament.

We regret during this season we will miss many familiar faces from the links, hut hope io welcome some new members, and that the coming season will he most successful. Mrs Mact'aiTanc said she had now held i |,e position of captain Bir the last lour years and also lor a previous term. She thought it might he well l„ have a change of officers occasionally. As one of the oldest members she took a great interest in the Golf (Tub and would always lie glad to help in anv way. She would like to propose Mrs Wilson as Captain. Mrs Wilson was one of the original members, and il was duo to her efforts as their first soerotarv that they lmd become member- of' the L.G.U- Mrs Maefailnne laid hesitated in asking Mrs Wilson to allow herself to he proposed as she laid so manv calls on her time but she was sure that her well-known executive ability would permit Imr to fulfil her duties ably and well. Sim had much pleasure in proposing Mrs Wilson at Captain. Seconded by Alls Brodie and carried. Airs Wilson then took the chair and after thanking members for her election gave a short resume of Dm early days of the club, mentioning its founders Afessrs AVilson and AVinehester and previous Captains. Mesdames Winel.ester. Mncfarlane and W. E. Williams. Airs AVilson compared the then conditions of play with those now obtaining and impressed on presentmembers tho many advantages they had which tho pioneers of the Club did not enjoy. Aliss Aloore proposed Afrs Macfaitano as secretary. Seconded by Mrs Butler and carried. Airs Alacfnrlano proposed Miss Moote, as Handicap Manager. Seconded by Aliss Lewis and carried. Alfss Aloore proposed Airs Brod*. n 3 a member of the committee. .Seconded by Afrs Neville and earned. The 1925 season was opened oil Saturday, April 4th, with a mixed foursome match, the winners being Aliss Perry and Air Alehlrttm, Over 50 members and visitors were present. The links are in good condition and the weather ideal, while the dainty afternoon ica provided by the lady members was much appreciated.
