It is not unlikely that all the Council seats will he contested, while it is on the curds that there will be a mayoral contest lhis year—the fust for many years. Seats on the Harbor Board and Hospital Board, however, are not likely to he sought after very keenly. 11l view of the awakening interest in civic affairs, all eligible should make it a point of being enrolled on the burgess roll.

The Citizens Ball to welcome homo Mr Jack Steel, the West Coast All Black footballer, will take place in Hie Ii.S.A. Hall this evening. The gathering will be thoroughly representative of~the various sporting bodies in the district and a record attendance is assured. .Mel can’s Orchestra will supply the music al the conclusion of the Pictures. while G-ood I'd lows Orchestra will supply suitable suitable music during the earlier part of the evening. The various football trophies won last, season will be presented to-night by the President of the local Sub-l'niou.
At the usual weekly euchre al the Soldiers’ Hall Inst evening there was a lair attendance mid a pleasant time was passed. The winner of the principal prize proved to be Mrs JBreeze Jim., with -Mrs Sumner and Mrs Benjamin securing the ladies' special prizes, ami Mr F. Thompson and Mr Dougherty the men’s prizes. 'I he lucky seal awards wont to Mesdnim's Sumner ;i jh I Kileulleu. and Messrs Bain and Paterson. Supper was served by the ladies' following which a, dance was indulged in, Messrs Goodi'ellow Bros, assisted by Mr (’. Raynish, supplying good music and Mr Sumner in charge of the door. There will not be any euchre next Thursday owing to the proximity of Faster. Alter the holidays the euchre will be resumed, and a special tournament will be opened, commencing the first 'I liursday in May.
