HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, April 1. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated .March 28, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— BUTTER. Tlie demand is quiet. Official quotations are:— New Zealand—Finest salted, slow, 16.8 s to 172 s per ewt (Is Gd to Is GUI per Hi); unsalted 182 s to 181 s per cwt (Is 7-J per lb). Other qualities 150 sto 100 s per cwt (Is l.'d to Is SJd per lb). Australian—Steady. Salted IGGs to 108 s per ewt (Is 5Jd to Is 6d per lb); unsalted 178 s to 182 s per cwt (Is 7d to Is 7U! per lb); other qualities .15-1 s to It;.ls per cwt (Is Tld to Is SUI per lb). Argentine—Slow. 16Gs to l/2s pel cwt (Is 53(1 to Is 6-id per lb). Other qualities IGOs to l(Ms per ewt (Iso.pl to Is ol per lb). ‘ Danish—2l6s. t'o 218 s per cwt (Is 11a per lb).

CHEESE. The demand is quiet and the market is easier. Official quotations are: —

English— Finest farmers’ firm. 135 s to bills per cwt (Is 2Vd to Is 3d per lb). Canadian —Coloured 106 s to 110 s per ewt (11 i<l to 11 i|d per lb): white 108 s to 110 s per cwt (113 per H>) - New Zealand —Coloured and white lolls to 102 s per cwt (103 d to lid a lb). ’ Australian —Coloured quiet. 08s to 100 s per cwt (10. pl to 10pi per lb). Shipments of New Zealand l"'oduee arrived this week per Wuiweru and Biiia<line. HEMP. Manila was inactive during this week hut closed firmer with sale of “•!” grade March-May shiments at .Col 10» per toil. The New Zealand market continues quiet, with small business reported afloat and in dock at £39 for high points and C 37 for fair. Xor ward position no demand. WOOL. The Bradford market is quiet, and little now business is being done. Al the close there were indications of more activity in merino, but cross-bred is neglected. Present quotations are:— (IPs (merino) warp 5s 3d: (il’s (merino) average 5s Id; All’s (super halfbred' 3s (Id ; IP’s prepared Icoarse cross-bred i 2s Gd. OATS. The market is dull and English is plentiful. White is quoted at—Seed 31s per (Jltlilb; feed 295. No. 2 Canadian Western April shipment offered at 28s (ill : nominal value New Zealand “A’ Spot. :!0s lu M2s; "B” 29 s nils. for shipments Is per quarter less. TALLOW. The spot market is quiet but there is a fair demand at auction. No forward business is reported. Present quotations are the same, as last week except— Mutton, line tßs per ewt; fair to good |As c.,1 to -17 s : beef, sweet and mixed ■His. EGGS. The demand is slow and the market 'quiet.
