TO STAND FOR INVERCARGILL. [DY TELEGRAPH—rEH PRESS ASSOCIATIMs.] INVERCARGILL, March 31. This afternoon a deputation representative of different classes in the community waited upon Sir Joseph Ward to request Ids acceptance of nomination us the Liberal candidate for tiie Invercargill seat at the next election. -Mr W. X. Stirling presided and Mr A. L. M. Movies acted as spokesman. He said that the Invercargill electors, now that a vneany was about to occur, wished to have as representative a man whose experience, ability and Parliamentary genius had been tried and tested by public service. Sir Joseph Ward was such a mail. It he consented to accept nomination, they would do all that was possible to make his Meelion a triumphant victory. Sir Joseph Ward in replying, said

that lie was honoured by their invitation. He referred to his long and intimate connection with Southland. He stressed the importance, for this country, to have a strong rather than a .sectional Government, and he placed himself unreservedly in their hands. In due season, ho would appear to address the electors, and to place his

views before them. Sir Joseph Ward expressed his symapthy with Mr Massey. He hoped that Air Alassev would soon he restored to

health. (Applause, l He thanked them sincerely for their cordial invitation, to which he very cheerfully responded.
