WELLINGTON, March 30.

Ever since the close ol 'tiie session, tbe Prime .Minister Inis Leon in a son'iewli«t indifferent slat" ot health, suffering from a painful ill news, slated to he .sciatica. For some time past Mr Massey was under treatment at Rotorua.

After liis return to Wellington, particularly since the New Year, it was assumed that he was making steady if slow, progress, towards recovery. At the beginning of last week, this progress was reported to be continuing, but later in the week a turn b the worse took place. The news that the Prime Minister was to lie operated on, came as a greai surprise to his colleagues in the Cab inct, and to everybody concerned. CONDITION WELL MAINTAINED. WELLINGTON. March FP On making inquiries at a late hour to-night, regarding the condition ol the Prime Minister, reporters wore informed that ‘‘the patient’s conditier is well maintained, and everything is going on as well as can be expected.” All further inquiries were met by the statement that the only information available for piublication would be that given in official bulletins, tho second of which is to lie issued at noon to-morrow.

CONDITION V NC! lA N(< ED. WELLINGTON, March 31. Earlv this morning Mr Massey s condition was unchanged and lie was resting as comfortably as might be expected . Messages are coming in from all directions and resolutions of sympathy are being passed by public bodies. A meeting of the Reform League at which four Ministers were expected to speak, has been postponted indefinitely. OFFICIAL BULLETIN.

The following official bulletin was issued at noon to-day :—Prime Minister passed a fairly comfortable night and bis strength is well maintained.
