Live thousand people attended at the Basin Reserve on Saturday to witness a series of athletic tests in running and cycling between representatives of Australia and Xew Zealand, in addition to an interesting programme.

Live tc-sts were arranged, in which Parker and Crelian (sprint-), W byte (half mile). Hyde (mile). and Burness (eveiistl met Leadheator, Jenkins and Paris 'sprints), Campbell and Long (half mile). Rose (mile), and I'lc-tt and Oakcv (cyclists).

The first test was the 100 yards. It was a splendid race. All rose Iron* their marks simultaneously, Parker jus! beating Leaclbealer, who came wilh s great rattle* at the finish, by inches, in 10 2-3sec*s.

In Liu* mile Rose and Hyde kept together until the last lap, when Rose made* a great effort, running away from the Australian, and finishing the distance with a magnificent spurt . Ibe time was 4min 24sees, which is six seconds outside Power's Australian and New Zealand record. The next lest was the 220 yards. Parker and Grolian (Australia) proved too good for Paris and Kyle, the lormcr winning easily in 22 I—Asees.

In tlu* cycling events, Licit battled bravely against Berness, but the latter was too speedy at tin* finish winning (lie mile by a wheel in 2min 21 2-Asees. The three mile’ cycle race saw a lint 1 1 • r ■desperate finish, and the Australian won by a length in 7m o.i 1-osee. There was a medley relay in which all the* runners and cyclists appeared.
