THE WATERHOUSE CASE
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION JUDGMENT FOR £12.000 LONDON, March 23. Mr Justice Shearman, summing up in the Waterhouse case, said that if the payments to Lady Wilson Barker were made properly and innocently, why had not Lady Wilson Barker explained the transactions in evidence? The jury decided that Lady Wilson Barker obtained 23 payments front Waterhouse by means of fraudulent representations, but held there was no conspiracy with Sheldon. Air Justice Shearman entered judgment against the Wilson Barkers for £12,075. He pointed out that, though lie thought the law ought to he altered a husband was still responsible for his wife’s torts. Sheldon was dismissed from the suit with costs.
