PEACE OF EASTERN EUROPE. INTENSIVE NEGOTIATIONS. (“Sydney Sun” Cables). (Received this day at 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, March 23. The “ Daily News” says that intensive diplomatic negotiations are proceeding regarding the Allied Pact guaranteeing the peace of Western Europe. The German Ambassador visited Mr Chamberlain and cleared up obscure points contained in Germany’s original proposals. Tile Anglo-French Cabinet’s are discussing these, which have smoothed the path to some extent. The chief obstacle is the Polish frontier with which Germany is dissatisfied and is unwilling to guarantee, though willing to submit the disputes thereon to Arbitration. Britain is unwilling to commit herself to guaranteeing Poland despite French pressure. There is some indication of a separate pact regarding Poland, excluding Britain. This may provide the solution of Germany’s proposals which include early evacuation of the Rhineland.
