Alter Mr Chamberlain to-morrow has given the House of Commons an indication of the progress made at Geneva, Mr B. MacDonald will champion the rejected Geneva scheme, thus committing himself and the Socialist Party to a scheme which the Dominions rejected. M. lierriot is being informed of the British views upon security hy Ambassador Fleraux, but M. Herriot’s problem is: Shall he side witn Bi itain. or with Poland. which refuses to consider the German scheme for a security pact as promising any basis lor discussion. Germany is suspected of seeking to change the Versailles l.oundarv in the East.

FRANCE ALARMED. LONDON. Match 23

The “Daily Chronicle's’’ Paris correspondent states :M. lierriot is not pleased with Signor Mussolini. who recently dramatically intervened in the security embroglie, by offering England a treaty alliance to the exclusion of France. Mr Chamberlain as in duty bound, made the offer known to France. Ike nioio tion alarmed France, and set the French Government wondering .it delay in admitting Germany to an international pact may not he carried too far. and result in France falling between two stools. 1 lie British thesis is that a formula must he found on a basis of the German offer. The possibility of including Germany in a pact is being seriously considered at the Quai d’ Orsav. If Germany agrees, non-aggression pact and a revision of the Polish frontier can be at least discussed.
