From a good start, .Major Goodsell took the lead, each rowing 30 strokes to the minute. At the quarter mile Goodsell lost Ids grip of the right scull but recovered it. Before reaching the half mile, Goodsell was hall a length in front, and he gradually increased liis lead, being two lengths ahead at the three-quar-ter mile, and four lengths at the mile.
