The waterside workers this niorning refused to respond to the call to load the barges with cargo for the Port Denison, which arrived I rum Maiknknpu. Their action is allegedly the result of a communication received last evening from Wellington.
The watersiders are retieicnl as to the reason for their action, contenting themselves with Hie statement that the men are at liberty to work a vessel i [hcv want to hut none of them do. Their attitude', it is stated, is hr,seel on the allegation that the Port Denison was loaded at Waikokcq u by non-union labour, hut ibis statement is controverted l, v a message from Wairoa yesterday repenting that a Waterside Worker,’ Union had beau formed there.
