AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “NOT A I)IMAM WAS HJiAIM)." TO-NIGHT. I In? A\ illiani I'nx special western (lranm "Not a Drum M'iis Hoard” featuring [}u<-k Jones will ho presented at the Princess 'l'hoatre to-night, supported by tlie latest Fox News and it special two-reel comedy. On Thursday Charlie Chaplin’s wonderful dramatic production : “A Woman of Paris” which has just concluded a very successful season in the four centres of New Zealand will lie presented for one night only at the Princess Theatre. Charlie Chaplin, wlm personally directed and produced “A Woman of Paris” says: I have tried to make a story of life, as 1 see it- a life that is not composed of heroes and villains, hut of men and women with nil their passions given to I hem hy Clod. My sole purpose is that of entertainment, hut if a moral has crept into it. it is a preachment for tolerance, and understanding for those wlm have made mistakes, to invite your pity for human weakness lor, after ali, none are perfect. It is so easy to condemn—so hard to understand and forgive. I feel that v.e are driven by Fate—wlmt. is driving us. I do not know. I dwell on truth because of the fact that in this picture treatment and technique are different from the usual run of piotures. As I have noticed life; in ils dramatic climaxes, men and women try to hide their emotions rather than to express them, and this is the method I have pursued in an endeavour lo become as realistic as possible. And f realize that it may he questionable, for. after all, you are the judges, and your taste must he served. To some it may look as though \ had not taken full advantage of dramatic possibilities while others may see good taste in the strength of repression. And by your reception I will guide myself in the future. If I have failed well, I have had a lot of fun making this pic I tire. What more could T ask ? Put. if you appreciate it (you know what 1 mean), I have more than my share of happiness.
