Stall worthy who arrived by the Makurn from Auckland complained to the police that lie was knocked unconscious by confidence men who unsuccessfully attempted to interest him in a racing speculation. Two alleged crooks showed him how they won £560(1 and they wanted him to cable to New Zealand for funds for a similar investment. Stallworthy arranged with a detective to arrest the two men. 'I he latter, however, apparently realised that they were being shadowed and during the momentary absence of the policeman, they struck Stallworth,v down and escaped. The above ease is one of several similar experiences of well-to-do Australians and New Zealanders lately arriving at Vancouver and San Francisco. They are watched from arrival and robbed by various methods.
