AIFETING AT GREYAIOUTH
The Alain Highways Board for No. 12 District (West Coast Counties) met at the Public YYorks Office, Groymouth, last evening. Present: Messrs AVatkinsou (chair), Higgins (Grey), Evans (Westland), Bell (Inangahua), Archer (Bulleri.
The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.
A quantity of routine business was d.-alt with and various circulars from Main Highways Hoard, Wellington,
discussed. . Regarding the fencing of the lattle Wanganui Traffic Bridge, South Westland, the Chairman stated he had forwarded an estimate of the work in November last to headquarters, to fence about 10J chains on the approach. The authority for the work, estimated to cost Cl 5 15s, had not been received. It was resolved the Chairman again write for authority. In respect to Waimea Creek Bridge, Stafford, regarding which the Westland County Council had written the Minister of Public Works, the Chairman stated the vote for the work was £7OO and the cost Cl 100. Ihe Department had been acquainted of this, and further instructions were asked m respect to undertaking the work. The Chairman stated tlmt no tenders were received for the new bridge at Totara. Ross road. This was regretted as it was desired to push on with the Ross road bridges. It was now intended to erect the bridge by day labour. The new bridge would be taken in hand after Frosty Creek bridge had been repaired by the budge the application of the Westland County Council lor a bridge over Granite Creek near Ferguson s on the Main South Highway, the Chanman said he was not in favour of hght traffic structures. He thought also there were more important works required on the south road to take precedence. It was resolved to list the work for the new list of grants m the coming financial year. p„ regard to the ha Fontaine Creek open crossing on the Main South Road ~t [lari I lari, the Chairman stated the maintenance vote for the year was exhausted. The cost in improving tie mossing was estimated at £SO and the funds were not available. As the woi • was considered -very urgent I? ‘he residents it was stated on behalf of the County Council that the local body would assist with the loan of the lorry when next in the district to do the filling required; The Chairman said such offer would he helpful. A deputation from the Groymouth Borough Council waited on the meeting and asked for a subsidy in improving Omoto road going out of the town for a distance of about GO chains. There were some awkward bends and it was hoped to widen the roadway to ball a chain width. Since 230 vehicles had passed over the road in one day. About £3OO would he helpful at present in attending to the three worst bends. It was resolved to recommend a subsidy of £ for £ for the work. The Duller County asked for a reduction in contribution for road maintenance owing to the loss of vehicle licensing revenue from £OOO to £250. The Chairman was asked .to reply. In regard to the annual review of main highways in the district, the application from the Westlaiul County Council to include Kokntahi-Koiter-angi road was approved and recommended .

Routine matters were dealt with and the meeting adjourned. Subsequently the County representatives met and discussed amendments to the motor lorry licensing valuations as proposed. Mr F. A. Molls, Chairman of Westland County, was present also. The matter was gone into at length, and the represenatives will report to their resepective Council’s.
