At the meeting of the Main Highways Council last evening the Chairman stated a reply had been received from the Highways Board that a subsidy could not in the circumstances lie granted to the Hokitika Borough Council Mr l'.vans pointed out that the Borough would now he receiving a portion of the heavy traffic motor fees, and that would assist to meet the case „f the boroughs within the Highway area.
The mystery of the whereabouts of Mrs Ellen Louise (Nellie) -Mount, whose husband is at present on remand on a charge of having murdered her. reports yesterday’s “Lyttelton ’limes, seems to lie no nearer being solved. 1 o|jee officers are still concentrating on the case in the hope of arriving at a solution of the mystery, hut at present no further developments have been announced. The feast of St. Patrick, apostle of the Irish race, "ill he fittingly observed next week.
