At the Soldiers’ Hail this evening at 8 o’clock an interesting euchre tournament " ill be held. I here will he a prize for the highest scorer nt the evening, and in addition first and second prizes each for lailiys and gen tiemen scoring the highest number of games other than the winner of the dinner set. Four special praxes lor the lucky table will lie given also. A bumper attendance is expected. A number of local residents are leaving for Nolson this evening to be present at the motor sports on Saturday in which some local riders will ho competing. Mrs J. L. Fowler announces in this issue that she has taken over the Conv inereial Supper Booms, situated in Unveil Street, where first class suppers can be obtained. Fresh fish, oysters in season, and fried lish and chips can also he purchased for home (imsiiiiipt ion. Says the West pert “News”—Although no definite . announcement has been made, it is generally understood that Mr J. Aleiizies. who contested Bullei seat at hist General Elections will again no a candidate at the coming elections. It is also stated that strong representations are being made to the Hon. \Y. H. Mclntyre to resign from tho Legislative Council in order to contest a seat in the Lower House. T! successful, Mr .Mclntyre, it is stated, would he offered the portfolio as Alinister for Alines owing to his practical experience in coal mining flml familiarity with every phase of the iiulus-
