NEWS AND PRIVATE-MESSAGES BANNED.
WELLINGTON. March 10.
One of tiie new regulations which have been issued in connexion with the control of wireless telegraphy provich that a licensed station must not be used in any way to compete with Government communication services, and shall not transmit- or receive radio communications, the transmission or reception of which is calculated in the judgment of the Minister to cause a less of revenue to the Post and Iclegrajh Department. A regulation of the kind is deemed necessary in order to pievent amateurs communicating with one another for social or business purposes when they should rightly make use of the telegraph system or the post office. Such an incident occurred some time ago,, when the wireless message 111 transit was picked up bv a Government official. At the same time there is no desire or intention to niter!ere with experimental work and the .Minister is empowered to allow the transmission of test or experimental messages between recognised radio organisations. The regulation puts an effective bar on newspapers installing wireless plants for the reception -ami subsequent pu location of items of general news. Until the Government itself establishes M own high-powered station or goes in for some alternative system for the reception and transmission of long-distance messages, the telegraph and cable must he used for news services,
