AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION SYDNEY, March 10. The ladies hundred yards backstroke championship of New South Wales resulted—. Miss Carbery 1, Miss Woolfe 2, Miss Sinclair 3. Time 1.15. A UCK LAND, March 11. At the swimming carnival last night, A Bird, a local swimmer sprang a surprise in the 500 metres race, beating Cunnold (the N.Z. mile and a half champion), Enwright (holder of the Kellerman Cup) and Pelham (who created a new record for 440yds. at the recent N.Z. Championships). Baird swam the distance in 7.14 3-5, the best time put up by a N.Z. swimmer, and beat Enwright by three yards. Jean Bell, aged sixteen years, made a new record in intermediate girls’ race of 220yds. doing the distance in 2.57 J.

At the opening of the North Irish Parliament at Belfast, the Duke of Abercorn (Governor) annonnede he bad acceded to the request of Ministers to dissolve Parliament. NINE OF CREW RESCUED. AMSTERDAM. March 10. Nine more of the Sotrakarta’s crew were rescued by a lifeboat this morning. The captain, pilot, mate and wireless oflicer are still aboard.
