NEW REGULATIONS. WELUXCTON, March V. Important new regulations governing radio receiving, amateur transmi 11 ing and receiving and experimental stations have been gazetted by' Onler-in-Couucil. For the purpose of now regulations New Zealand is divided into lour radio districts—Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago. Chatham Islands are included in the Wellington district, and Stewart Island is included in the Otago area. 1 District radio inspectors of the abovementioned districts shall he respectively the District Telegraph Engineers of Auckland, Wellington, Christheureh, and Dunedin. Following arc some of the more important new regulations:— Licenses for receiving stations, amateur transmitting stations, and exI porimental stations issued in pursuance I of the radio-telegraph regulations for amateur, experimental, and broadcasting stations which were published in the “New Zealand Gazette’’ on .January 18th. 19211, shall expire on March 31st. 1925. and may be renewed upon nplicalion in accordance with those regulationps. ! LICENSES. CLASSES AND CONDITIONS. 7.—As provided in the Post, and Telegraph Act, 1908, and its amendments, no person may erect, construct, or establish any station or plant capable of transmitting or receiving wireless telegraphic signals, otherwise than in accordance with a license issued to him by the Minister of Telegraphs. The following eases of licenses may lie granted, and may be evidenced by instruments in accordance with ibe forms in the schedules to these regulations : (a) Receiving station licenses (First Schedule). (h) Amateur transmitting and receiving station licenses (Scorn! Schedule). (e) Experimental station licenses, (Third Schedule). Licenses for radio stations to he erected and operated by schools, colleges, institutes, societies, and like bodies shall, in accordance with the objects in view, be classified bv the Atinister in accordance, with this regulation. Portable or mobile stations shall bo classified by tlio Minister, and slmll be subject to such additionnl conditions regarding the field of operation and the like as the Minister may deem it neeessarv to impose. FEES FOR LICENSES. (1) Except where otherwise specified in these regulations, the annual license or renewal fee for each of the several classes of radio-stations shall be as follows, payable in advance:— (a) For a receiving-station license; £1 10s. (b) For an amateur transmitting and receiving station license, £2 2s.
(c) For an experimental-station license, £2 2s. (2) The lee. for the first year, or portion thereof, shall accompany the application. For a period of less than one year the fee shall be:— (a) For a receiving-station license. . 2s Gd per month, with a minimum of 7s Gd. (b) For an amateur transmitting am’ receiving station license. 8s 0< per mouth, with a minimum of lOs Gd. (e) For an experimental-station li cense. As 6d per month, with r minimum of lCs fid. G 5) Tn the case of any application for a license that reaches a postmaster or district radio inspector after December 31st. the fee for the next full year must be added to the fee for the period then remaining of the current year ending on March 31st. following. (4) 111 the case of renewals, payment of the above-mentioned fees bo not made on or I efore the due date, the license shall automatically lapse. (5) The fee for a duplicate copy of a license shall he ss. A portion of the annual fees paid by licensees in respect of licenses issued in pursuance of these regulations slmll be utilised by the Minister in the assistance of persons or companies engaged in broadcasting.
