PEDIGREE STOCK.
PURCHASES BY H. G. CARTER
The Short horn cattle purchased by Air H. G. Carter, of Kainaka, at the A. and P. Show, from Mr T. H. Overtoil, the Lakeside breeder, through Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., are of high grade. A. survey of the pedigree of''the six animals will prove of interest and is as follows:
The cow “Bells of Caldwells” wliHi has an unbeaten record at the Canterbury Shows for cows, and won the AVest Coast Championship this week. A heifer calf of the same breeding as “Bells of Cold wells,” which won the first prize in her class at the Greymouth Show. ’l'lie milking Shorthorn cow “Cloverlea Polly.” winner of two championships in Canterbury last year. and champion of champion cows at the AVest Coast Show last week. ■
A milking Shorthorn yearling heifer a constant "inner in Canterbury, and first ill her class at the recent AVest Coast Show, bred from a high grade imported hull. A heifer Shorthorn milking calf of the same breeding as the one immediately above mentioned. All the above mentioned female animals have liecn mated with the noted Shorthorn hull “Clovcrlea Filpail’s. S ill.” which is from a dam and a grand dam each with record milk, and butterlel outputs for a year, namely 15.4721b5. of milk under ordinary dairying conditions (two milkings daily) ami 585 His. of butter-fat for the year. The Shorthorn hull “Lincoln Birchlea Bovalist IV.” has also been purchased by Air Carter from Mr G. Stoddart. the well-known Lincoln breeder. This hull is hv “Birehlea lloan Prule.” out of “Taiiniutn Duchess IV.” which never was beaten in the purebred dairy classes in the Canterbury Shows. Tim dam of this hull is noted for her beautifully balanced udder, and was ehnmiiimi ut the Canterbury Show. mm hull's sire has proved a most sueeesr ul stock-fetter, and in the progeny clashes has never been beaten at any Show, while his stock have scored very heavily in the Shows of Canterbury. Air Carter’s enterprise means a stop forward in the dairying industry, which i- wort lily of emulation by AVest Coast dnirv farmers, and it is hoped the farming community will take advantage of the opportunity Air Carter is providing to breed from the high class strain.
