MOUAT ARRESTED.

Frederick Peter Mount was discovered in a brick kiln at Cashmere Hills this afternoon, and he was arrested on a charge of having murdered his wife. At an early Hour 'this- mor|;ii.ng a driver from .Mr ,1. Brightling’s brick kiln saw Mount asleep in the quarry.
He communicated with some of the other workmen, who, in turn, communicated with the police. About five minutes before the detectives arrived. Mount was seen to crawl into the brick chandler of the kiln. He was arrested at the kiln. Tile men at the kiln stated that Mount- arrived there at two o’clock this afternoon'. He walked around and inspected the kiln, and he was talking with them, when Chief Detective Gibson and Detectives Haile and Bickerdike arrived.
Detective Hade approached Atonal and said : “Good afternoon Air Mount, feme outside.” Afouat surrendered himself without any resistance, and he made no statement.
Detective Fade told him to cheer up, and not look so down hearted on it. In conversation with the men at t' kiln, before the arrival of the detectives, Mount said that he had been on a fortnight’s holiday at Oarnaru. It is stated that, on the day of his wife’s disappearance, February 20th. Mount pawned some of his wife’s and his own jewellery. Tie told Die pawnbroker that lie intended to take a t.ri> to Australia, and then go to South Africa. He said that lie was disgusted with this country and he was getting out of it.
MOUAT CHARGED WITH MURDER A CROWDED COURT. CHRISTCHURCH. March 10. Frederick- Peter Mount, husband of Ellen Louise (Nellie) Mount, was charged this morning that on or about February 20th he did kill one Nellie Mount, thereby committing murder. On the application of the police Mount was remanded till the 18th. Application for hail by the accused’s solicitor was refused. The Court was crowded during the brief sitting, and many people were unable to gain admittance. Mount looked weary and worn. His clothing was untidy and bespattered with dirt.
