BOWLING.

NELSON V. HOKITIKA

The visiting Nelson Bowling Club party returned from AA'aibo Gorge yesterday afternoon at two o’clock, and were loud in their praise of the very enjoyable outing in spite of one very wet day while there. This had one advantage for them for they saw the AA'aibo in heavy turbulent flood, while along the hillside there were many very fine waterfalls which proved very attractive to them. A visit was paid to the glacier on Thursday which proved a great delight and they returned yesterday loud in their praise of everything in the south, a scenic wonder of the first degree. The game with' the Hokitika Club took place yesterday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the local Club. The green was heavy after recent rain, hut ran truly and a very pleasant couple of hours "'as spent. The lady supporters of the Chib provided a dainty afternoon tea. which was fully appreciated. Before commencing play Afr G. If. Blank (President) conveyed to the visitors a, hearty welcome to the green, expressing the pleasure felt at having Nelson players present, with the hope that an enjoyable game would result. On behalf of the visitors Mr Harkness replied stating they had had a. very pleasant trip and were looking forward to the game, appreciating the welcoming words of the Bresidnet. It bad. been the intention of tbe visitors to have played on two afternoons, but tbe wet day on AA’ednesdnv bad upset their plans. At tbe conclusion of tbe play Mr Faiitham (a former wellknown Ctisoms officer in Hokitika) who acted secretary for the party, expressed the pleasure they had had in being able to visit Hokitika. AA'ith himself it had been doubly pleasant at being iiblo to renew many old friendships. The visitors regretted that they were unable to stay and play again the next day as_ thev were due at Groymouth in the afternoon. They desired to specially thank the ladies for their hospitalitv which thev had fully appreciated, and hoped to have an early visit to Nelson from local bowlers, assuring a thorough welcome.

Afr Blank briefly replied, expressing the pleasure at the pleasant game that bad taken place, and assuring a welcome at all time to future visitors.
