SINGAPORE BASE.
MISTIIAI.IAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION BENEFIT OF MASK TO DUTCH. SINGAPORE, January 2. While opinion here is general that Holland will welcome the Singapore base and .stand to benefit as much as the Mritish because all the ne.glibourin„ island territory in these waters is mostly Dutch, it is stated that it is the intention of the Netherlands to proceed with the strengthening ot its Pacific fleet as soon as finances permit. The Mritish view here is that one reason for the further development of the base, apart from additional provision for naval repairs and oil depots, is accommodation for big ships ot deep draught which cannot at present dochere ""or in the Dutch Indies harbours. Very little preparation will be necessary for the resumption of work on the base.
