Store Cattle.—Only a medium yarding and as usual mostly of odd cows and nondescript lots. No quotable lines were offering.
Fat Pigs.—Only a medium entry of porkers came forward and the market opened much better than last week and continued .firm throughout the sale. Bnconers were in good demand and all lots sold at late rates. Values: Light porkers 50s to 58s, heavy £3 to £3 4s, average price 7d to Pd, light baconers £3 15s to £4, heavy £4 os to £4 19s Gd, extra to £5 ss, average price 6pl to 7d.

Beef.—-A much smaller yarding and the quality was very irregular. There was a larger proportion of cows and heifers than usual and the market generally was firmer, especially for weli finished heifers and young cows ioi which there was about a 20s rise. Steers, however, showed little, il any, difference. No North Island cattle were (Carded. Prime steers .£l4 to £ls 15s, extra to £lO 17s Od, medium £ll 15s to £l3 10, lighter £9 5s to £ll ss, others down to £7 10s. prime heifers ;£!) to £ll, extra £f3 2s Od, others £0 to £8 15s, prime cows £S to £lO, extra to £l3 17s lid, medium £5 5s to £7 15s, others down to 37s fid. Mutton. A smaller yarding than last week, hut quite sufficient for butchers’ requirements. The yarding comprised mostly owes and the quality
generally, as well as the sale, was very irregular, with practically only one exporter buying and he secured quite a fair proportion of the entry. r J ho watersiders strike and the shortage of hiu hers’ had had, no doubt, a detrimental effect on both the mutton and lamb market. Prices were anything from Is Od to 3s below last weeks rates. Prime wethers made 38s to 41s (id, extra to 45s 10d, medium 35s to 37s (id. others down to 82s. prime ewes 31s to .'llls, cxtl-a to I ts. medium 27s to 395, lighter and inferior 21s Gd to 235. Another small yarding and the quality was again with exceptions, very indifferent. Owing to the same reasons lambs showed a sympathetic drop with fat sheep. One or two of the regular exporters were not operating at all and the market generally showed a decline of Is fid to 2s a head. The average overall price in our opinion was 12d to 12»d.
